Kids BJJ

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for kids, weekday evenings at 5 PM in North Phoenix. Confidence, discipline and a way to handle themselves that follows them off the mat. ESA funds accepted.

01 The kids program

The quietest kid usually ends up the calmest

Kids classes run Monday through Thursday from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. Each one moves through movement games, a technique broken into pieces small enough to actually hold onto, and supervised practice with a partner.

What they’re really learning is harder to put on a schedule: how to lose a round and shake hands, how to keep trying something that isn’t working yet, and how to stay level when a situation gets physical. Belt promotions come when the work has been done, not when a term ends.

Parents are welcome to watch from the side. Most do, at least at first.

Coach Jessica Lang and Coach Albert Abril, with Prof. Alef Brito overseeing the curriculum.
What to bring
Shorts and a t-shirt for the first class, and a water bottle. We’ll get them into a gi once they’ve decided they like it.
ESA approved
Pinnacle is an ESA Approved Vendor with the Arizona Department of Education, so Empowerment Scholarship Account funds can be applied toward tuition.
Bullying
Humility is a house rule and it is enforced. “Don’t be a bully” is written into our values, and the mat is where we teach the difference between capable and cruel.
02 From the coaches

We are watching for the confidence, not the medals

Belt stripes are a nice afternoon. The change parents actually report is at home and at school — a kid who speaks up, who doesn’t escalate, who finishes what they started.

I find it extremely rewarding to watch their progress and see their confidence grow — a confidence that they will apply in all other areas of their lives going forward.Coach Jessica Lang
